Here’s what happens when I attempt to write a story: After stomping around the apartment for a day and casting hurtful aspersions upon my computer’s general character, I cobble together six sentences in which a thinly fictionalized (read: taller) version of myself wanders around NYC and eventually gets to make out with Eliza Dushku. Weeks later, my submission is returned with a handwritten note urging me to seek psychiatric counsel.

Here’s what happens when Freedy Johnston attempts to write a story - as he does in today’s FReedy FRiday selection, Western Sky: As effortlessly as taking in a breath, he invents a consequential moment within a knotty relationship and sketches it in a manner both delicate and cutting. Then he gets in his late-model Maserati, drives over to Eliza Dushku’s house and totally makes out with her. Freedy rules.

Buy Western Sky here or here. Me, I like the acoustic arrangement better.
