Among Freedy Johnston scholars, the songs Caroline, Remember Me and Gone Like The Water are known as the “two-step trilogy.” They share a similar rhythmic gait and similarly strain-y harmonies during the chorus. Lyrically, they’re all about girls and stuff. Future generations of musical historians will arrive at the conclusion that Freedy more or less wrote the same song three times. They will applaud his ingenuity and tap their toes to the 2/4 backbeat.
I’ve chosen Caroline - off Unlucky, an in-between EP designed to capitalize on the sorta-popularity of The Lucky One - for today’s FReedy FRiday jolt. It is cheery. I am not. Buy it here.
