LD reactions to the first song off a new Springsteen record in the years since he (LD, not BS) attained semi-adulthood
Youngstown, 1995: “Low-grade Nebraska, likely to improve with full-band treatment.”
Where The Bands Are, 1998: “I can throw away my sped-up bootleg version of all these outtakes now. I am very pleased by this development. I will celebrate it by consuming vast quantities of domestically brewed beer with my camp friends.”
The Rising, 2002: “A full-throated E Street Band song with a li-li-li chorus will make the record company very, very happy. Me, too.”
Devils and Dust, 2005: “Remember when John Fogerty got sued for plagiarizing his own song? With Every Wish, Blood Brothers, Dead Man Walking, etc. At least give us a key change or something.”
Oh Mary Don’t You Weep, 2006: “We used to complain about how we’d only get a new Bruce record every 73 months. Enjoy it for what it is.”
Radio Nowhere, 2007: “Rock! Rock! Rock! If Bruce had to borrow the chord structure from an ’80s hit, at least he chose a good one.”
Working On A Dream, 11/16/08: “Uht-oh.”
