GINA GALLERY OPENS IN NEW YORK
International Naïve Art Gallery Opens First U.S. Location
New York, NY April 11, 2008 - GINA Gallery of International Naïve Art (ginagallerynyc.com) opens its first U.S. site in New York City. With an existing GINA Gallery in Tel Aviv, Israel, the NYC opening positions the gallery as the sole exhibitor and seller, and the leading authority, in the U.S. of the highest-quality international Naïve Art.
Naïve Art, one of civilization’s oldest art forms, is revered for its portrayal of everyday scenes through simple vignettes brought to life in bright, vibrant colors. Naïve artists are typically self-taught.
Founded by Dan Chill, an enthusiastic Naïve Art collector, the concept for GINA Gallery grew out of his personal passion and private collection of artwork reflecting various cultures from around the world. “GINA Gallery’s mission in the United States is to introduce the world to an overlooked and undervalued art form,” says Chill, managing director of GINA Gallery. “Gallery visitors will be immediately touched by the heartwarming portrayals of everyday scenes that celebrate the human narrative.”
The gallery will sell Naïve Art from approximately 25 countries by more than 200 artists, each handpicked and visited by Chill in his or her home.
New Art / New Location
In keeping with its unique approach to the art world, GINA Gallery will be located in close proximity to some of the city’s favorite cultural landmarks on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, away from the city’s major art gallery district. The 2,000-square-foot gallery space will contain an expansive collection of museum-quality Naïve paintings in a variety of styles, sizes and price points.
GINA Gallery’s opening exhibition, “Rites of Spring,” will feature more than 75 paintings that will include a selection of landscapes, urbanscapes and scenes of daily life from the gallery’s vast inventory.
